In the waning legislative days before lawmakers on Capitol Hill depart for the month-long August recess, pressure is mounting in the push for Congress to consider the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

A top priority of the National Turkey Federation (NTF), the USMCA would preserve the turkey industry’s trade relationship with Mexico, by far the largest export market for U.S. turkey products.  Since 2014, over 60 percent of U.S. turkey exports have gone to Mexico. Ensuring this partnership remains uninterrupted and has room to grow is paramount.

The USMCA also provides for new trade opportunities with Canada. If ratified, the USMCA would allow for a 29 percent increase in U.S. turkey exports to Canada.

The expansion of U.S. turkey products’ access to more foreign markets not only benefits the economy, but also sustains thousands of American jobs and allows turkey producers to provide a healthful, nutritious protein option to countries across the globe.
