Spiced Turkey Patties

Ingredients

2 c plain, dry bread crumbs, divided

1/2 c finely diced onion

1/2 c seeded and diced tomato

1 Clove garlic, minced

1 tsp fresh ginger, peeled and minced

1 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro

1/2 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp garam masala, See Note

1 tsp ground red pepper

1/2 tsp salt

1 egg, beaten

2 tbsp plain yogurt

1 lb GROUND TURKEY

3 tbsp vegetable oil

Tomato slices

Cucumber slices

Raita

1-1/2 c plain yogurt

1/4 c seeded & finely chopped cucumber

1/4 c seeded & finely chopped tomato

1 tbsp finely chopped onion

1/8 tsp ground cumin

Directions


 



Combine 1 cup of bread crumbs, onion, chopped tomato, garlic, spices, salt, egg and 2 tablespoons yogurt. Mix thoroughly. Add turkey and mix gently but well.


Divide into 6 equal portions and shape into patties about 3 inches in diameter.


Coat both sides of the patties in remaining 1 cup bread crumbs.


Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Saute patties until no longer pink inside, about 5-6 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.


Meanwhile, mix 1-1/2 cups yogurt with remaining ingredients for sauce. Cover and refrigerate until serving time.


Place prepared patties on serving plate. Garnish with tomato and cucumber slices. Serve with Raita Sauce.


Note: If desired, substitute 1 teaspoons garam masala with 1/4 teaspoon each ground cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and black pepper.
